Oh if only peonies could be bought all year around ..." is what many people think, who have fallen in love with a seasonal flower variety. Unfortunately we forget how important seasonality and thus how important the four seasons are for our environment and our planet. With today's globalization, it seems normal to us to be able to buy strawberries or mangoes in the supermarket all year around. Our flower market, on the other hand, is currently dependent on the seasons in Europe. We owe this to the low demand from the European consumers. And that's exactly how it should stay for our nature's sake. Also, many of you do not know that there are seasonal flowers alternatives for every of your favorite flower. For example, the large ranunculus resembles peonies, the hyacinths resemble the lilac, and the anemones resemble the blue poppy.
